Site Induction

Welcome to the site. This induction covers safety requirements, emergency procedures, and environmental responsibilities for all personnel working on roofing projects.

• Follow all site signage and instructions from supervisors
• No running on site
• Report all hazards immediately
• Keep work areas clean and free of trip hazards

Mandatory PPE:

• Hard hat
• High-visibility vest or jacket
• Steel toe-capped safety boots
• Gloves suitable for roofing tasks
• Eye protection when cutting or drilling
• Harness and fall protection equipment when working at height if edge protection is not in place

• Use only certified scaffolding, mobile towers, or MEWPs
• Always use fall protection systems
• Never work on fragile roofs without proper edge protection
• Two-person rule for high-risk roof work

• First aid kit located at the site welfare unit
• First aider on site — ask your supervisor
• In case of emergency, call 999
• Assembly point is located at the site entrance

• Prevent debris and materials from entering watercourses or drains
• Dispose of waste materials in designated skips
• Minimise dust and noise where possible
• Protect existing vegetation and trees around the site

• Fragile roof materials
• Slippery surfaces when wet
• Falling tools and materials
• Manual handling of heavy roofing sheets
• Exposure to weather conditions

• All hazardous substances must be assessed before use
• Use only approved products on site
• Follow the COSHH assessment and safe systems of work
• Store chemicals in designated, labelled containers
• Use appropriate PPE when handling adhesives, solvents, or coatings

• Hot works require a daily hot work permit
• Must sign in and out on the permit
• Keep a fire watch for at least 60 minutes (increased at times due to site specifics) after works finish
• Use safety torch in designated areas shown on the site plan, abiding by the Safe to Torch site plan
• Fire extinguisher must be immediately available during all hot works — 2 extinguishers per gas torch
